• The German government is accelerating efforts to merge four high-voltage grid operators, reported Bloomberg on Tuesday, with the eventual goal of forming a single unit. Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s cabinet is in talks to buy out TenneT Holding, 50Hertz Transmission, TransnetBW, and Amprion as it believes combining the operators is the fastest way to modernize power lines for a coming influx of renewable energy.

• Spain's Iberdrola will invest €47 billion in electricity networks, renewable energy production, and customer businesses over the next two years, executive chairman Ignacio Galan said in a strategy update on Wednesday, as the utility pushes to remain one of the leaders in global renewable power. • Amazon said on Wednesday it would add 2.7 gigawatts of clean energy capacity through several new projects as it seeks to use 100% renewable energy across its business by 2025. The company expects to generate 50,000 GWh of clean energy from its entire portfolio, the equivalent of powering 4.6 million US homes each year.

• Ingka Group , the owner of most IKEA stores worldwide is buying a 49% stake in three wind development projects from renewables development company OX2 for €58 million. Ingka Investments said the two projects in the Baltic Sea and one off the southwest coast can reach up to a total installed capacity of 9,000 megawatts. Ingka Group already produces more renewable energy than it uses and invested around €3 billion in wind and solar projects since 2009.
